What this site records

There are no accounts, no sign-up, no newsletter and no form. Three scripts measure traffic. Here is what each one does, and where one of them does not run.

This page is the privacy notice. It describes the measurement on californiatirelaw.com. It does not describe the tire program, and it is not legal advice. The same facts are on the terms.

Google Analytics 4

Every page loads Google Analytics 4, measurement ID G-21X8QENBDX, from /ga.js on this site. It sends a page view for the page you opened. It loads for every visitor, including a visitor in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, and a visit whose country can't be detected. The country gate described below does not apply to it. The tag sets anonymize_ip to true. Google runs the service. There is no consent banner.

Microsoft Clarity

Every page asks for /clarity.js. For some visitors that address is the loader, which records anonymised session replays and heatmaps and is run by Microsoft on its own terms, not mine. Microsoft Clarity does not load for visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, or whose country can't be detected. The same rule covers territory codes Cloudflare reports separately for places under those laws. That is decided on the server from the country Cloudflare, the network serving this site, reports for each request, before any Clarity script is sent. A skipped visitor receives one comment and the browser does not contact clarity.ms. There is no consent banner.

A counter on this site

A first-party counter, /ct.js, logs pageviews, how far down a page people read, and which of the source links they click through to. The click record is the host only, not the full address. It keeps a visitor id in your browser so a return visit is not counted twice. That number is the one I actually care about: it tells me whether readers are going and checking the filings instead of taking my word for it.

What this site does not hold

There is no name, postal address or email address on file from a visit, because there is nowhere on the site to type one. If you write to [email protected], that is email you chose to send. It is not a form on this site.

CaliforniaTireLaw.com is independent. It is not affiliated with the California Energy Commission, any tire manufacturer, any retailer, or any trade association, and it does not provide legal advice. How the pages are sourced is on the about page.
